San Diego Wedding Photography

A San Diego wedding,
year-round Pacific.

Six venues, the May Gray rule, Sunset Cliffs at golden hour, Hotel del Coronado at full luxury. The most weather-reliable wedding region in California.

San Diego is the most weather-reliable wedding region on the West Coast. 70°F average year-round. Almost no rain May–October. The only catch: May Gray + June Gloom (morning overcast that burns off by afternoon).

Beach + cliff + estate + downtown — all within 30 minutes. From the 1888 Hotel del to the Sunset Cliffs at golden hour to a $60-permit ceremony at Cabrillo Lighthouse, the variety is unmatched.

September. Hotel del or Sunset Cliffs. AGV travels.

FAQ

Most-asked questions.

San Diego in May or June — risky?+
May Gray + June Gloom (marine-layer overcast) hit San Diego mornings. Mitigation: book ceremonies for 4 PM or later, when sun has burned through. Indoor venues (Estancia, Hotel del ballroom) work in any weather. September is the safest month.
How does Hotel del Coronado work?+
Beach ceremony on the property + grand ballroom reception. $50K+ all-in ceremony fee. Books 18+ months out. Includes bridal suite + ballroom + beach setup. The most prestigious San Diego wedding venue.
Permits at Sunset Cliffs / La Jolla Cove?+
San Diego Park & Recreation permits required for ceremonies with chairs/arch. $600 for Sunset Cliffs. $600 for Ellen Browning Scripps Park (La Jolla Cove area). File 30 days out. Couple-only elopements with no setup do NOT require a permit.
How does Cabrillo National Monument work?+
NPS Special Use Permit, $60 file fee, max 40 ppl. Ceremony at the lighthouse keeper area or tide-pool overlook. File 21 days out. Best at golden hour. Most underused premium SD wedding location.
Where do guests stay?+
Hotel del Coronado ($800–2,000, on-property if you book the Del). La Jolla Estancia ($350–700, on-property). The Lodge at Torrey Pines ($600–1,200, golf-resort luxury). Hotel Republic San Diego ($300–500, downtown). US Grant Hotel ($300–500, downtown classic). Andaz San Diego ($350–600, design-forward).
Should AGV travel from the Bay Area?+
Yes. AGV travels for San Diego weddings — flights + 2 nights lodging at-cost included in most packages. We have shot 8 SD weddings since 2021. Familiar with all the venues + permits.
How much does a San Diego wedding photographer cost?+
AGV starts at $5,000 for 8-hour San Diego coverage including travel + 2 nights lodging. Most couples book 10 hours ($6,000–7,500). Multi-day weekend coverage $8,000–10,000. Travel cost is at-cost (no markup).
What about Balboa Park as a wedding venue?+
Balboa Park requires city permits + advance reservations for any of its venues (Spanish Village Art Center, Casa del Prado, Botanical Building). $400–800 permit fees. Beautiful but bureaucratic. Most SD couples skip it for portraits-only stops.
